The Mathematical Imaging Group is a research group within the Centre for Mathematical Sciences. Work within computer vision started in the mid-eighties, as one of several work directions in applied mathematics. The research within the mathematical imaging group can roughly be divided into geometric computer vision, cognitive vision and medical image analysis. These areas are all important technology components in today's society. A proof of this is the number of emerging products and companies utilising such components at its core. Examples of this in which the group has been involved is Zi-Decuma AB, Cognimatics AB and Polar Rose AB.
One indication of the quality of the work is the fact that Fredrik Kahl got one of the starting independent research grants from the European Research Council in 2007 and that Decuma (founded by researchers in the group) got awarded the prestigious EC IST Grand Prize of 2003.
