Biography

Maria Priisalu is a doctoral student at Lund University where is supervised by Prof. Sminchisescu. She is a member of the Smart Systems Group supported by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research.

Maria obtained a MSc. degree in Computer Science in 2016 from the Faculty of Engineering at Lund University where she wrote a thesis on human joint pose prediction from monocular vision. As part of her MSc. studies Maria attended an exchange to Georgia Institute of Technology where she undertook computer vision and machine learning courses. During her MSc. studies Maria also attended Zhejiang University for exchange studies and worked as a teaching assistant in the introductory programming courses.

In 2014 Maria was awarded a Summer Research Fellowship at California Institute of Technology. During the fellowship Maria researched into non-convex optimization methods for sparse Linear Discriminant Analysis under the supervision of Dr. Brendan Ames. In 2015 Maria attended a internship at the CERN, where she studied label aggregation techniques for crowdsourcing data under the mentoring of Dr. Ben Segal and Prof. Francois Grey. That year Maria was a member of the winning team of the 2015 Google European Android Camp Hackathon.

Maria’s research is focused on machine learning in computer vision. In particular she is interested in scene understanding. Maria has been a reviewer for CVPR 2018 and ECCV 2018.
