Henning Petzka holds a post doctoral position in the research group of Prof. Sminchisescu. Henning has a mathematical background with several years of research in pure mathematics. He obtained his diploma in Mathematics at the RWTH Aachen University, and completed a PhD. on operator algebras at the University of Toronto, Canada. He received a personal scholarship from the German Research Council (DFG). Henning has published several papers in high-ranked mathematical venues like the Journal of Functional Analysis.
Before joining Lund University, Henning has done research at the Fraunhofer Institute and the University of Bonn, where he gained experience in applied data science and semantic web technology. He further built up his knowledge in machine learning as a team member writing a report focusing on machine learning competence, applications and areas for long-term research. In collaboration with colleagues at the University of Bonn, he published his first paper on machine learning, devoted to Wasserstein GANs at ICLR 2018.
Due to his mathematical background, Henning’s interest focus on a better understanding of the mathematics behind recent success in deep learning. His research also includes generative models and unsupervised learning methods.
