Centre for Mathematical Sciences

The Centre for Mathematical Sciences is part both of the Faculty of Science and of the Faculty of Engineering. The Centre consists of approximately 120 employees. We carry out research and teaching in mathematics, mathematical statistics and scientific computing. The personnel of the Centre can be clustered according to different non-disjoint criteria, e g according to title, faculty, subject or research groups. The three administrative divisions are: Mathematics (Faculty of Science), Mathematics and Numerical Analysis (Faculty of Engineering) and Mathematical Statistics). The Head of the Centre is Magnus Fontes and Gudrun Gudmundsdottir is the Deputy Head. The board meets 4-6 times per year. Within the Centre there is also a executive group consisting of the Head, the Deputy Head of the department, and the Heads of the three divisions.

Central Administration

Board

The board is an advisory group supporting the Head of the Centre, consisting of elected members from students, teachers and researchers and administration personnel. The board addresses long-term decisions concerning the activities of the Centre.

Management

The Head of the Centre, the Heads of all divisions and the Administrative Head meet weekly to address management questions.

Mathematics, Faculty of Engineering and Numerical Analysis

Teaching in mathematics at the Faculty of Engineering and in numerical analysis at both the Faculty of engineering and the Faculty of Science. Research in algebra, analysis, scientific computing, computer vision, dynamical systems, non commutative algebra and geometry, computational modelling and numerical analysis.
