Mats Ehrnström (NTNU Trondheim) and Mark Groves (Saarland University)
In this session we review current results from the theory of
partial differential equations with particular emphasis on applications to
wave propagation. On the theoretical side, topics include the calculus of
variations, well-posedness of Cauchy problems, free boundary problems
and stability of solutions. Applications include existence and stability of
special solutions (in particular waves of permanent form), water waves
and model equations for water waves, the effects of nonlinearity and
dispersion in wave propagation and asymptotic behaviour of waves.
