FMA420 Linear Algebra, FMA410 Calculus in one dimension, FMA430 Calculus in several dimensions, knowledge in a programing language and Matlab.

Contents

Error analysis, computer arithmetik, numerical algorithms to solve linear equation systems, condition number and norms, least squares method, eigenvalue computations, solution of nonlinear equations, polynomial and spline interpolation, ordinary differential equations (initial and boundary value problems), basic signal processing with FFT.

Goal

The aim of the course is to teach students basic methods and principles of scientific computing to enable them to solve basic and frequently ocurring mathematical problems using computers and numerical software.
