CANCERRISK HOS BARN TILL KVINNOR MED BRÖST- ELLER OVARIALCANCER; EN REGISTERSTUDIE Anna Bladström The purpose of this work is to estimate the incidence of different cancer diseases for children with a mother who has been diagnosed with breast or ovarial cancer. We have also investigated if the cancer incidences depend on the mother's age at diagnosis and if the incidence of breast or ovarial cancer is higher if both mother and a sister had cancer. Through the Swedish Cancer Registry, which was established in 1958, all women before 1994 with a diagnosis of breast or ovarial cancer were identified and about 160,000 potential mothers (index persons) were found. Children born before 1961 were identified through the 1960 year census and children born from 1961 were found through the Fertility Registry established this year. The identified children constitute the study cohort and they were matched against the Swedish Cancer Registry and the Population Registry in order to get cancer cases and correct end of follow-up. The offspring cohort was stratified according to gender, age and calendar time and analysed by means of the person-years method. Due to dependence between sibs we developed a technique for dependent cohort data.
