HIGH SPEED ON RANDOM ROADS Roger Pettersson Matematisk Statistik, Lunds Universitet Mechanical systems often means non-linear problems which may be difficult to solve analytically. We consider one such system. The set-up is briefly described as follows. A vehicle moves along a randomly profiled road. If the road is uneven and the speed is high, a wheel may in short intervals leave the road and make a jump. The equations which describe the motion of the vehicle will then be switching and heavily nonlinear. A convenient representation of a solution is given and convergence of a numerical method is obtained.
