Martin Noretoft: Tracking based on double array configurations The bearings-only target tracking problem is studied. A simulation study is done to investigate the performance of a solution to the passive ranging sonar problem. Two different methods are compared. One where the differences of time delays between the sensors are measured and used for passive ranging, and one where the submarine is towing a sonar but do not use the information contained in the slightly curved wavefront of the sound emitted from the target. An idea using non-linear regression for the estimation is presented, but not elaborated. The simulation studies will give some indications about which of the variables, noise, distance between the sensors, and sampling time that give the biggest impact on the quality of the estimation.
