SEMINARIESCHEMA FÖR MATEMATISK STATISTIK Onsdag 29/5 13.15 Rebecka Jörnsten 1996 Matematisk statistik, Lund, presenterar sitt examensarbete: Subpixel resolution in PIXE-images. Implementation of a Deblurring algorithm using Simulated Annealing. Abstract: PIXE (Proton Induced X-ray Emission) is nuclear imaging method for studies of the elemental composition of samples. As a beam of high-energy particles is moved across the sample, the amount of induced radiation from each target area will be measured. These measured quantities are proportional to the number of atoms in the target areas. Obviously, the resolution of the PIXE method is determined by the beam diameter. Today, although the beam can be focused to micrometer diameters the resolution is still too coarse to be used succesfully on certain medical samples. By moving the beam to overlapping positions, a process often refered to as blurring, we aim to improve on the resolution determined by the beam diameter. A stochastic model for the imaging method was constructed and a deblurring algorithm was implemented approximately using simulated annealing. Lokal: Rum 227 i Mattehuset. Björn Holmquist 046-2228546
