Anders Malmberg A Stochastic Transport Model for Atmospheric Carbon Monoxide Abstract: Tropospheric Carbon Monoxide (CO) is an important trace gas and air quality indicator and is one of the few atmospheric species that can be remotely sensed from space. The Terra satellite provides observations of global CO mixing ratios that can be used to better understand the transport and transformation of CO. To sensibly validate satellite data and for use in assimilation contexts, a hierarchical Bayesian spatio-temporal model, which is based on an advection/diffusion idea, is suggested. Based on a Observing System Simulation Experiments, results and interpretations of the estimated model parameters are presented and discussed.
