Title: Random patterns of non-overlapping grains Marianne Månsson Mathematical Statistics Chalmers University of Technology Abstract: Some processes of non-overlapping, varying-sized grains, in particular spheres, will be presented. The processes are constructed in two steps: first points are generated according to a Poisson process and grains are placed at the points, and then the Poisson process is thinned so that there is no overlap between grains. Some different thinning mechanisms and properties of the resulting processes will be discussed. The talk is based on joint work with Mats Rudemo, and its original purpose was to construct models for defects in cast iron
