Running S-Plus in Emacs

Running S-Plus in Emacs

First set up your Emacs startup file by adding the following lines to your .emacs file:
(global-font-lock-mode t)
(load "/usr/matstat/nader/elisp/ess-5.1.19/lisp/ess-site")
(setq ess-ask-about-transfile t)

Now quit Emacs (C-x C-c) and start it again.

Enter M-x S+5 to start S-Plus version 5. Emacs will then ask you for your S Starting Directory - enter your directory where you've run Splus CHAPTER. You'll need to create a new chapter first with Splus CHAPTER at the system prompt if you are starting a new project. If you want to keep notes of your S-Plus work enter name of a transcript file in the next question, otherwise just press Return.

To start S-Plus version 3.4 enter M-x S+3. In this case you only need to have a .Data subdirectory under the directory where you start S-Plus.

For more information see the manual of ESS mode and the official emacs refcard.
