Mathematica 5.0 is now installed on all Sun computers and on hilbert (euler/tyche) and on most linux computers.
Version 4.2 is still available, with the commands math4.2 and mathematica4.2 (not on linux computers).
If somebody wants to have it on a Windows computer, we can fix that too.

Netscape 4.78 & Netscape 7.0 beta  are now installed on all
Sun workstations
Netscape Communicator 4.78 has the following components:
Navigator, Messenger, and Composer.
              Navigator is the supported and recommended Web browser.
              Messenger is the recommended e-mail client.
              Composer is not supported.

Netscape 7.0 beta is a major release with lots of new features.
This browser cannot be used parallel with Mozzilla due to
conflicting  setup files.

FFTW (version 2.1.3) is now available on all Sun Stations and on hilbert.
FFTW is a C subroutine library for computing the Discrete Fourier Transform
(DFT) in one or more dimensions, of both real and complex data, and of arbitrary

Solaris Workstations. Mozilla is an open-source

Gnuplot version 3.7 is now installed on all Solaris Workstations.
It is a command-line driven program for producing 2D and 3D plots.

 Perl version 5.6.1 is now installed on all Solaris Workstations!
Perl (Practical Extraction and Reporting Language) is a script programming
language that is similar in syntax to the C language and that includes a number
of popular UNIX facilities such as sed, awk, and tr. Check mna perl for more
information.

on all Solrais Workstations. The command is: slrn

The calendar program ical release 2.2 is now installed
on all Solaris Workstations.

ical's main features include the abilities to:
     Create, edit, and delete items easily .
     Repeat items in various ways .
     Generate alarms for upcoming appointments.
     List and print item occurrences.
     Include other calendars .
     Share the calendar between multiple users.

The 2 ES40/ Compaq computers (euler & tyche)
are working properly, and the IO problems experienced
lately are resolved. I have now added the following
features that will increase performance and ensure
that your applications can run without interruption
independent of the NFS server.

a) matlab, maple and Splus are now installed locally
on the servers.
b) A workspace for each user is now created on
hilbert(tyche,euler). The directory is located in
/matcent/your_user_name, I recommend that you transfer
the files needed to run your application to this
directory and to store all files generated by your
application at that location. Make sure to transfer
back all your files when you are done.

Example:
1) Login to hilbert(euler,tyche)
2) Transfer files in directory alpha_program to the temporary
space on the server.
cp -r alpha_program /matcent/my_user_name/alpha_program
(-r enables you to copy a whole directory structure)
3) cd /matcent/my_user_name/alpha_program
4) Run your application and make sure that it writes to this
location.
5) Transfer back the resulting files to your home directory.
6) Remove the directory /matcent/my_user_name/alpha_program

    a) New Swedish version of StarOffice 5.1 for Solaris.
    b) StarOffice5.1 for Linux &WIN95/98/NT.

a)  The Swedish version of  StarOffice 5.1 is now available
on all Sun Stations running Solaris.  This version has both
Swedish and English spelling tools.

Installation procedure:

     A client version of the application (2 MB) has to be
installed  on the users home directory. This is done by
 running the following commands.
Note: You can only run one version of the package
and you will have to reinstall if you are changing
language. Follow these steps.

            1- cd  $HOME

            2- mv Office51 to "something else"
                     Note: Files saved within this directory
                        will have to be moved back  manually
                        after the installation is complete..

            3-  soffice.swe.inst (Swedish version)
                                  or
                   soffice..inst (English version)

            4 -You can now start the program with
                  the command soffice

            Detailed help is provided within the application.

b) All users within the Mathematical Centre can
    install freely StarOffice5.1 Swedish & English
    edition for Linux & Win95/98&NT. CD copies are
    available by Carl-Gustav & James

  LyX is a graphical interface for LaTeX.   The command
is lyx

running Solaris. The package includes the latest
versions of the following compilers:

our site in 2 days. This package is now replaced
by StarOffice.

    Two powerful Compaq ES40 computers named
tyche & euler are now accessible for all users. They are
each  equipped with 4GB  memory & 4 CPU's.  They
are  each 20 times faster than gauss.
These two computers will be clustered into one as soon
as the new operating system Compaq True Unix 64
version 5 is available.

be linked to the latest version of the application.
