Computing Services
HTML editing
with gnnpress

gnnpress is a word processor as well as a WWW navigator. I have primarily used this package to write most of the Computing Services pages. A complete User Guide & Tutorial is available from America Online. Detailed help is also available from within the package.
This page is for the absolute beginner and is written for users who only want to make small changes to their initial homepage. You will find here a few tips on how to edit your homepage and an  example highlights some of gnnpress/aolpress features.

It is very easy to edit a homepage using a hypertext editor like aolpress. The example below will prove that. However, producing a homepage readable to all regardless  of their hardware platform and software navigator program is more complex. For example, the same character type size, color and shape may differ widely from platform to platform. The following are my solutions to this problem.

Goto Step 1

A step by step construction of my first homepage with aolpress.

Step 1.

Starting the program.

The initial homepage is started with gnnpress/aolpress.

Goto Step 2

This page is best viewed in full screen!!!!

Step 2.

Modifying text.

Position the cursor in front of the first occurrence of the string "James", delete characters "ames" and insert string ". Hakim"
The same procedure is repeated with the string "James Hakim(..."  which is replaced with "J. Hakim(....)".
Note that the newly inserted strings have automatically taken the shapes of the initial ones.

Step 7.

Adding a link to another HTML page.

You have already marked the string you want to associate a link to another HTML page. Select option link from the menu bar Element and enter the URL address of the page you want to refer to.  In this example you could enter the full address "http://www.maths.lth.se/computers/index.html" or the relative address to the actual location "../index.html"

Goto Step 8

Before

After

Step 8.

Adding a link to the navigators mail program.

You have already marked the string you want to associate a link to the mail program. Select option link from the menu bar Element and enter the mail program command + your mail address. In this example "mailto:james@maths.lth.se".
